However, Microsoft continued to provide the free update for those who told the company that they made use of assistive technologies. The last day to take advantage of this offer is Sunday:
If you use assistive technologies, you can upgrade to Windows 10 at no cost as Microsoft continues our efforts to improve the Windows 10 experience for people who use these technologies. Take advantage of this offer before it expires on December 31, 2017.
Although this offer has been addressed to customers who use assistive technologies, the company does not have "controls" to determine if they really tell the truth. So, anyone can claim the free update as long as their system qualifies. With that said, Microsoft probably is not too worried in one way or another, and maybe it left this gap open to help drive the installation base of Windows 10.
It remains to be seen if Microsoft will end up extending the term again to allow this gap to persist for the foreseeable future. However, we would not bet against the extension of the offer, perhaps with less promotion from the company.
Microsoft announced last month that Windows 10 is currently installed on more than 600 million devices worldwide. However, that figure not only includes PC, but also smartphones with Windows 10 Mobile and Xbox One consoles.
